| For a year or more I've been gathering a huge file on my computer full of various leads, satellite images, municipal sewage reports, information on creek restoration, and my own photos of outfalls gathered from lunch hour walks along creeks and rivers in Scarborough, determined to find a drain of note in the city formerly east of - now amalgamated into - Toronto. On Saturday, one of those finally delivered. Welcome to what I'm calling Grassy Knoll, due in part to the outfall's hiding spot behind a little hill, and in part to the fact that it passes under both a road and a mall named Kennedy.
At the upstream end of this drain, which leads to Highland Creek West, there are a number of slightly varied access rooms, some of which feature concrete poured in place, still showing the wood grain from the forms. I'd like to see more concrete buildings poured this way, the texture adds a lot of character. Thanks again to Bryan for the company. We checked out other leads while in the area, and rest assured, this is not the last to be seen of the Scarborough underground. |
